You can choose to transpose the data as it is loaded, i.e. you can load rows from the file as columns in the Dataset.
You can choose to read the first row of data as the Variable names
As you choose options above the Preview panel updates to show what the first 10 lines of data would look like if you imported the data with those settings.

For Data Interchange Format files all the required information is available in the files to read everything into the appropriate column types.
